New-Release-Sept-2018 December 1, 2018, Desert Hot Springs, CA:  The excitement is building for this award-winning Americana songwriter’s fourth solo CD, “Ride Out The Storm.” This week the disc rose to #1 on the Roots Music Report True Country Album Chart, as well as charting strongly on several other polls.  A long time coming since “Home For Misfits” was self-released in 2007,  time, patience and perseverance paid off – a collection of new originals which is a cohesive stand-out, produced by Scrappy Jud Newcomb (Slaid Cleaves, Ray Wiley Hubbard, Patty Griffin).  Kaz’s new work caught Scrappy’s ear, and his interest was piqued by the catchy melodies and storytelling lyrics. The current song roster offers a swell of Tex Mex influences inspired by Newcomb, which sits well with Murphy’s roots, having spent 10 years in Cerrillos, NM and Austin during the 70’s to early 80’s, around the same time he was playing percussion for Allen Ginsberg. Kaz has a lot of stories to tell, check BIO for details. When People Come Together
Somebody Could Be Me

“Ride Out The Storm,” eleven songs recorded at The Zone in Dripping Springs, Texas, relates to Murphy’s personal state of mind, sending a nugget of wisdom, heart, or irony to the listener, even including a gospel-tinged tune (“Rise Me Up”) at the end.  Producer Scrappy Jud Newcomb also lent his musical talents to the group’s live studio recording, along with drummer/engineer Pat Manske (Dixie Chicks, Flatlanders, Los Lonely Boys),  long-time pal and band mate Jon Notarthomas (guitars, bass, vocals) (Ian Mclagan),  and  backups by friend and tour mate, Penny Jo Pullus, on 2 songs.  The live sessions run through 2″ tape add to the warm and friendly vibe of the music, with soaring mandolin vs baritone guitars, supporting Kaz’s distinctive voice, lyric and songwriting style.  Newcomb’s top-notch production and arrangement ideas showcase Murphy’s fresh take on bluegrass, folk, and Country/Western tradition.  Mastered by Pat Manske.
